    CSA C68.10; CSA C22.2 N° 174

Nexans Medium Voltage (MV) power cables are CSA certified to the requirements of CSA standard C68.10, and are suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, including all hazardous locations.

Applications

Nexans power cables are intended for use in various primary and secondary industries, including chemical processing plants, pulp and paper, refineries and general factory environments including areas where cables are subject to the risk of mechanical damage and chemical attack.

Commercial applications for Nexans MV power cables include apartment buildings and commercial complexes.

Nexans MV power cables can be used in both dry and wet locations in open wiring, in ventilated, non-ventilated and ladder-type cable troughs, in ventilated flexible cableways, and for direct burial.

Nexans MV power cables are also suitable for service entrance installations - above and below ground.

Nexans MV power cables utilize low flame spread PVC jacket compounds to ensure maximum safety to personnel and equipment in the event of fire.

Highlights

Nexans MV power cables are:

· Versatile

· Resistant to Mechanical Abuse and Corrosion

· “FT1” and "FT4" rated

· Hazardous Location “HL” rated

· Sunlight Resistant “SR” rated

· 90°C to -40°C

· LEAD FREE

· RoHS compliant

Marking and Identification

The outer jackets of Nexans MV power cables are printed: (month/year) NEXANS number of conductors, conductor size, conductor material, “CPT” TRXLPE (CSA), voltage rating, nominal insulation thickness, LTGG SR FT1 FT4 HL along with lightning bolt symbol, and sequential meter marking.

Construction

Conductor: Bare, annealed copper conforming to ASTM B3, compact stranded in accordance with ASTM B496. Optional water blocked conductors are available. Optional aluminum conductors are available.

Conductor Shield: Extruded semi-conducting conductor shield meets or exceeds electrical and physical requirements of CSA C68.10.

Insulation: Natural coloured tree retardant cross-linked polyethylene (TR-XLPE), 90°C rated, meets or exceeds electrical and physical requirements of CSA C68.10. Optional 105°C  rated TR-XLPE insulation is available.

Insulation Shield Non-metallic: Extruded semi-conducting insulation shield meets or exceeds electrical and physical requirements of CSA C68.10.

Conductor Identification: Color coded (black, red, blue) phase tapes laid longitudinally under the copper shield tape.

Metallic Shield: Bare copper tape shield helically wrapped to provide 100% coverage.

Grounding Conductor: Bare, annealed copper conforming to ASTM B3 and Class B stranded in accordance with ASTM B8.

Assembly: Conductors are cabled in concentric layers with grounding wire, interstices are filled with suitable non-hygroscopic fillers, as required.

Inner Jacket: Black, sunlight resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jacket per CSA C68.10.

Armour: Interlocking aluminum tape armour applied directly over the core. Interlocking galvanized steel tape armour, or continuously welded and corrugated aluminum sheath is available.

Outer Jacket: Sunlight resistant black polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jacket per CSA C68.10, 90°C temperature rating, with limited flame spread (FT4).  Other jacket colours are available on request.

Caution Notice

In case of fire, well maintained early warning smoke detectors will give an alarm long before non-metallic coverings become combustible.

However, in spite of the widespread and long-standing use of PVC in residential and commercial buildings, all purchasers of PVC insulated / jacketed products should be aware of the following:

· Non-metallic coverings of electrical cables can burn and may transmit fire when ignited.

· Burning non-metallic coverings may emit acid gases which are toxic and may generate dense smoke.

· Emission of acid gases may corrode metal in the vicinity; e.g. sensitive instruments and reinforcing rods in cement.
